“Nodes of Ranvier”

“Nodes of Ranvier” are gaps between adjacent myelin sheaths in which the axons are not covered by myelin. Myelin allows the fast conduction of electrical impulses through nerve fibers, because nerve impulses jump from one node of Ranvier to the next. When myelin is destroyed, the conduction of nerve impulses slows down or stops completely.
